Personal Vision's services are tailored to meet individual needs and interests.

 

Private:

Vision Education:
Children and adults can learn to use their eyes naturally and effectively for greater comfort and success with occupations such as reading, writing, computer use, driving, sports, work and play. Personal Vision's holistic approach recognizes the eye-mind-brain-body-nervous system connection. Personal Vision uses experiential practices which engage the visual system to promote exploration and discovery. The program helps adults and children develop eye fitness, attention, visual motor and visual perceptual skills.

Eye Fitness
Eye fitness refers to the natural way to use our eyes. It simultaneoulsy integrates central and peripheral vision while our two eyes work together as a team. It provides effortless focusing at any distance. It includes the skills of eye shifting, tracking and scanning. Eye fitness is essential to attention and visual processing.

Visual Motor skills
The ability to coordinate our eyes and body together, planning and executing precise movement, helps us with gross motor activities such as sports and fine motor tasks such as handwriting.

Visual Perceptual skills
Visual information enters through our eyes and is processed by our brain. Visual perception is a dynamic process arriving at meaning. The process depends on the ability to discriminate shape, spatial relations and figure ground as well as other visual perceptual skills.

Attention Training
Participants follow simple directions which require looking, listening, processing, speaking and moving all to the beat of a metronome. The directions gradually become more complex according to the participant's ability. This practice enables participants to develop greater attention and memory skills while increasing left/right awareness, sensory motor integration, timing and rhythmicity.

Color Light Therapy:
Personal Vision draws on three systems of light therapy to provide a comprehensive color light program for enhancing vision, attention, learning, and wellness. Helpful for reducing effects of stress and trauma; brain injury, acute and chronic conditions, healing and regeneration.

Syntonic phototherapy
Originated by Dr. Harry Riley Spitler, this ocular light therapy has been used for over seventy years by optometrists and other health professionals around the world. Specific color light frequencies are utilized to enhance vision. This model treats eye conditions by balancing the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches of the autonomic nervous system which affect our perceptual visual field.

Colorpuncture
Developed and researched for over twenty five years by Peter Mandel. This system uses hand held tools to administer color light to acupuncture points and zones on the body. It's goal is to promote connection with one's true life path while simultaneously getting to the root cause of dis-ease.

Acu-light Vision Enhancement
Developed by Sarah Cobb, this system takes the Syntonics concept of balancing the autonomic nervous system and integrates it with research from various light pioneers. Treatments administer specific colors to acupuncture points on the body, face and around the eyes for nearsightedness, turned eyes, macular degeneration, cataracts and other eye conditions.

Art for Wellness:
Draw or paint as self-expression and discovery. Receive support for your creative process. Art is a process which focuses and clears the mind, much like meditation, yet also provides a medium for organization, problem solving and creativity. Art offers a means to self awareness and experiential learning and growth.

Therapeutic Yoga:

Gentle Yoga
Relaxation tools for stress reduction, pain relief and vision enhancement. Gentle movement, stretching and breathwork.

Yoga for Kids
Sharon uses yoga in her occupational therapy sessions to help children improve motor planning, bilateral integration, core strength, balance and attention.

Meditation
Quiet the mind and calm the nervous system. Meditation or one-pointed focus can be used to clear the mind, for self-hypnosis, or a means to connecting with one's inner guidance for positive change, creativity and wellness. Guided meditations available.

The Listening Program® by Advanced Brain Technologies:
This is a listening therapy program utilizing music to improve auditory processing and related functions. Psycho-acoustically modified music by composers such as Mozart, Haydn and Vivaldi is performed by the Arcangelos Chamber Ensemble. The program trains listening skills including frequency perception, volume perception and spatial perception.

Classes:

Computer Vision
Our eyes are not meant to stare at a computer screen for hours at a time. Computer vision syndrome, a complex of visual difficulties, has become prevelant in the past several years. Learn vision and body ergonomics to help prevent visual distress or reduce the burning and blur of computer vision syndrome.

Reversing Nearsightedness
An introduction to natural vision enhancement practices, ways to reduce your lens prescription, possible underlying causes including mind-body perceptions.

Eyes Over Forty
Having difficulty reading small print? This workshop will provide you with tools to enhance visual skills at near to read with greater ease and comfort.

Eye Yoga
An integration of yoga and natural vision practices developed by Sharon Hicks. Learn simple eye-body practices that can be incorporated into any yoga sequence or practiced on their own.

Self-Discovery Workshops:
Through meditation, eye yoga, drawing, painting and discussion—Sharon guides participants to connect with their intuition, creativity and higher expression.
